Upper Willow Creek
UPPER WILLOW CREEK
This is one of the highest quality class V runs in the state (or anywhere for that matter). Upper Willow Creek is packed with more than a dozen solid class IV-V+/VI- drops nearly back to back through the canyon. Smooth rock, clear pristine water, and impressive rapids comprise this run. Gorge walls rise 200 feet overhead and several rapids require complete commitment as there is no way to portage except up & out of the canyon. Water levels of 300 cfs to 1,200 cfs are reasonable (650 to 800 is optimal), with anything over 800 cfs becoming very pushy. The creek is more the size of a river and has a pool-drop character, although the rapids demand precise technical skills to run smoothly. At the moment, there is no other run quite like Upper Willow Creek that we have found in the state!
