Tincan Creek
Tincan Creek
This is another very unique run to Alaska, as there are a section of waterfalls named The Throne Room that resemble a perfect waterfall-teacup-waterfall-teacup formation that you typically see in a place with smoother stone. This is a class IV-V micro creek (which is run typically with 200 to 400 cfs). High water runs are possible, but there is absolutely no way to stop or eddy out. The Throne Room is the highlight of this run, with a quadroople waterfall section comprising of a 20 fter into a 15 fter into a 2 fter into an 18 fter. These drops are separated by perfect teacup shaped deep pools. The rapids downstream include manky (not-so-clean) boulder gardens, another 10 ft. waterfall, several tight slots, and one large sluice slide (Royal Flush) about 20 ft. tall. The hike-in takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour, bushwhacking required. Definitely a unique and fun creek worth checking out. Located on the Seward Highway in Turnagain Arm.
